The Richtis Gorge is one of the greenest in Crete. Thanks to this, you can safely go there even on hot summer days, because almost all the time the trail passes in the shade of tall trees and bushes. This is because of the river, which not only flows through its bottom, but also forms a very beautiful waterfall with a lake where you can swim!

We will pick you up from your hotel or apartment at 8.00–9.00 in the morning (by agreement) and we will go to the gorge. The beginning of the descent is on the road Heraklion – Sitia in the village of Exo Mouliana. During the most part of the descent, the trail will go in the shade of magnificent trees and, most importantly, all the time down to the sea, so you will not have to overcome grueling climbs. The trail is very well equipped and marked. After about 3.5–3.8 km you will arrive to the stairs, at the bottom of which you will find a waterfall, where you can take a break and bath in the cool mountain water. The exit from the gorge is not far from the waterfall. It takes about 3–4 hours to go through the gorge, swimming included.

We will meet you at the parking near the gorge and take you, if you want to have lunch, to a Greek tavern in the village of Mirsini, which boasts a spectacular view of the sea and the coast, or to any other place you like, on the way to one of the oldest olive trees on the planet in Kavousi.

Its trunk has a maximum diameter of 4.9 meters and a circumference of 14.20 meters. Based on the annual rings, it is estimated that the tree was planted between 1350–1100 BC! At the 2004 Olympics in Athens, the winner of the women’s marathon received an olive branch right from this tree!

Waterfall falling down from a dizzying height, stunning views of the Cretan coast and an olive tree, under the shade of which the Minoan kings rested – it will be a great and intense day, which we hope you will remember for a long time when you return home.

We can pick up our dear guests from their hotel or apartment from any location in the municipality of Sitia and the eastern part of the municipality of Ierapetra, from the Pachia Ammos – Ierapetra road, including Ierapetra town (on the map area highlighted in yellow).
